D-ribose supplies heart cells with energy and so much more.
It is a simple five-sided sugar that supports the production of ATP (adenosine triphosphate) levels in cardiac and skeletal muscle. ATP also aids the heart’s muscle contraction. The more it contracts, the more blood it accepts.
Scientific research demonstrates that when ATP levels fall, so does diastolic function (the resting phase of the cardiac cycle when the healthy heart relaxes and accommodates incoming blood volume). D-ribose enhances the recovery of myocardial ATP, which improves overall cardiac function.
Similar to its cohorts CoQ10 and L-carnitine, D-ribose can be instrumental in treating a myriad of cardiovascular problems including arrhythmia, angina, heart failure, peripheral vascular disease, statin-induced myalgia, and the rescue of any muscle tissue that is starving for oxygen. It also helps to reduce many heart risk factors.
In addition, the documented benefits of D-ribose include enhanced physical strength, greater endurance during weight training, less free-radical stress during strenuous exercise, and fewer symptoms of fibromyalgia.
I recommend that my patients take 5 g two to three times a day as a smart way to beat cardiovascular problems.
